42 avenue Gabriel, an illustrious past

The La Réserve Paris hotel is nestled between the Golden Triangle and the presidential palace in the 8th district. It is just across from the Champs-Elysées gardens. Internationally acclaimed interior designer Jacques Garcia took inspiration from the paintings of Jacques Tissot to meticulously restore the home to its original 19th century style. Guests have their own butlers. This adds to the feeling of being in a private home in Paris during the Belle Epoque period.

In 1854 the Duke of Morny built his home on the fashionable avenue Gabriel. He constructed the building in the grand Haussmannian style of the Second Empire. The avenue was named after the architect Ange-Jacques Gabriel. Gabriel created what is now Place de la Concorde for French King Louis XV.

An extra-marital son of Napoleon I’s sister-in law, the duke’s half-brother was Napoleon III. Talleyrand, Napoleon’s chief diplomat, was his grandfather. A member of parliament, he invented lobbying on behalf of the sugar industry. He was an aristocrat, a dandy, an art collector, a racehorse owner and the developer of the Longchamp racecourse. De Morny was also the first to launch Deauville as a fashionable seaside resort.

The duke’s family owned the building until 1888. Current owner Michel Reybier and his family bought the property from world renowned fashion designer Pierre Cardin. Other Reybier holdings include La Réserve Geneva and Ramatuelle, and the Domaine de Cos d’Estournel vineyards in Bordeaux.

10 place du Trocadero, inspired by its surroundings

The La Réserve Paris apartments are on the Place du Trocadero in the 16th district. They offer stunning views of the Eiffel Tower. The Place du Trocadero was created in 1869. One of Napoleon’s battles in Spain gave the place its name. The imposing buildings and the gardens overlooking the Seine were added for the 1937 World’s Fair.

Interior designer Rémi Tessier restored the building faithfully. He then used the finest materials to create a luxurious contemporary decor that highlights its original features. The private pied-à-terre apartments become truly a home away from home.

Landscape architect Jean-Christophe Stoerkel created the gardens. He conceived them as a link between the building and the Trocadero gardens below. Stoerkel used plants popular in 19th century French gardens, the era that saw this elegant neighborhood develop.
