There are few examples of Paris property that come on the market which offer to-die-for views of Notre Dame and the Seine.

But that is the case of the historic private mansion, the Hôtel de Miramion. The building sits on the lovely Quai de la Tournelle in the 5th district.

For a classic Paris view, this is a Paris property that is hard to beat. It overlooks the sweeping arch of the Pont de la Tournelle bridge. This bridge links the Ile St-Louis to the Quai de la Tournelle on the Rive Gauche.

Distinguished Paris Property

The 17th-century Hôtel de Miramion is a rare gem. A city-center mansion complex, it includes a garden and an interior courtyard. Its 3,820-square-meter structure houses two adjoining buildings. Altogether, it has more than 75 rooms. Many of them have gorgeous original features, including a listed carved wooden ceiling.

It was originally a convent before the wealthy young widow Madame Miramion acquired the property in 1675. She converted the building into a school and charitable institution to care for the sick and educate young girls.

It was a noble aim in what is the city’s oldest district. The 5th dates back to Roman times. It is also home to such iconic Parisian monuments and places as the Sorbonne, the Pantheon and the Jardin des Plantes.

Following the French Revolution, in 1794, the Hôtel de Miramion became a giant pharmaceutical storage for hospitals. It served this purpose right up to 1974.

Paris Property with Pedigree

Even as far back as 1926, the Hôtel de Miramion’s beauty and pedigree were noted by the French government. It declared it a Historic Monument.

In 1934, the public hospital system of Paris (Assistance publique – Hôpitaux de Paris AP-HP) opened a hospital history museum in part of the building. They displayed more than 10,000 objects related to the history of Parisian hospitals from the Middle Ages to the present day.

The hospital museum closed in 2012 though when AP-HP decided to sell the building to raise funds for public finances.

The fortunate buyer was French telecommunications tycoon Xavier Niel. He paid more than €35 million for the Hôtel de Miramion. It is truly a unique Parisian property with unbeatable views and heritage.

What do apartments in this charming historic neighborhood cost these days? According to the Chambre des Notaires de Paris (Paris Chamber of Notaries), the average price is 10,190€/m². This average price is far from representative of that for highly desirable properties, which often sell for far more.

A duplex with balcony and a view of the Seine is currently offered at 17,625€/m². The two bedroom two bathroom property is on the top floor of an 18th century building. It combines old world charm with modern conveniences. The property offers exposed wooden beams and original hardwood flooring.
